The reason Santa's workshop has never been seen by polar explorers is because it's located under the North Pole. Once a year, Santa opens the passageway to the surface, but this year, M.A.D. is waiting and takes over the workshop to begin manufacture of a M.A.D. agent kit designed to hypnotize all the kids in the world and turn them into junior M.A.D. agents.

Tom Lane is the star columnist for the media conglomerate owned San Francisco Sun newspaper. The company is thinking about increasing Tom's exposure by producing a new television show around him. Liz Madison is the advice columnist for the little read community newspaper, the Marin County Voice, which is a throwback to gentler times.
