The Catherine Tate Show - Nan's Christmas Carol (2009)
Catherine Tate's brilliant character gets the Scrooge treatment with an extended Christmas special all to herself... When mean-spirited, two-faced, foulmouthed Nan welcomes the festive season with her usual mix of sweetness, sarcasm and expletives, she finds her late husband appearing to warn her of some impending visitors. This hilarious update of Charles Dickens' story unfolds after Nan has turned out the Cratchits, her relatives from Yorkshire.
In Victorian London foundling Jedrington Secret-Past has his shop of stuff confiscated and his wife and children jailed in the Skint debtors' prison by wicked lawyer Malifax Skulkingworm, who claims that Jedrington has inherited a debt from his supposed grandfather, which must be paid by Christmas day - eleven hours' time. Denied help by his austere adopted aunts, Jedrington's kindly uncle provides the money but Skulkingworm attempts to kill the shop keeper. He is rescued by the Artful Codger and his urchins and shown proof by Skulkingworm's clerk Fearshiver that he is not the descendant of a debtor but the child of Miss Christmasham, who deserted Malifax to marry Mr Fruitcake, the maddest man in the Skint. After the family has escaped from jail with jovial Mr Jollyforth, Miss Christmasham and Fruitcake marry on Christmas eve, thus giving Jedrington legitimacy and thwarting the evil lawyer.
As Christmas approaches Will is in London rehearsing his new play 'Eighth Night' for the queen and is surprised that the usually hostile Greene is giving out presents, claiming it is because he is lonely and wants to cheer others. A sympathetic Will invites him, along with Kate and Kit, to join his family for the festivities but Greene has a sinister motive - to steal the present Will has bought for the queen, thereby ruining his career. Fortunately Anne has an idea to save her husband.
