A man is sent to a small town to assess which of the workers in the local factory that supplies the town with jobs should get the boot when the downsizing begins. He gets sidetracked when he falls in love with a local, a cute single mom.
Veterinarian and part-time mayor Sarah heads a town council desperate to find a doctor to keep open the small town's clinic. They fear, rightly, that family after family will move away and the town will disappear. Their hopes are raised when Bob announces his widower son Michael the surgeon and grand daughter are going to visit for the first time in years for the Xmas holiday. The mayor's attempt to recruit Michael is complicated by their history (their high school romance) and his secret shame (that he has lost his confidence in his surgical skills to the point that his big city hospital is kicking him upstairs to an administrative position).
Through a cosmic mix-up, a shiftless but good-hearted man is accidentally tagged to be the new Santa Claus after the old Santa dies. The gruff, no-nonsense manager of the North Pole is decidedly unhappy with the selection /// Santa must pass his powers on to his chosen successor, but mistakenly passes them on to an ex-con.
A foster home for boys is in danger of being closed when its benefactor dies. /// A cold businesswoman threatens to close boys' foster home during the holidays when she returns to her hometown to settle her late father's estate.

Ten years ago, Andrew married his childhood sweetheart, Beth. Now Andrew's a high-powered literary agent, but his relationship with his wife has not fared as well.
