The Christmas Tree (1958)
A 1958 Hallmark Hall of Fame made-for-television film that was broadcast on NBC on December 14, 1958. It is based on the short story "An Affair at the Inn" by Charles J. Finger. A number of stars in short skits, including Carol Channing and Cyril Ritchard on skates.
A 1964 CBC television musical adaptation, starring Cyril Ritchard (Peter Pan's Captain Hook) as Scrooge, with Alfie Bass and Tessie O'Shea as Bob Cratchit and his wife.
This revisionist fairy tale is told from the Wolf's point of view. He was minding his business when along came this precocious little girl, Red Riding Hood. "And the nerve of that cowardly woodsman, daring to hint that I was attacking her", the wolf cries. Naturally, the animals of the forest do not believe him.
Mitzi sings and dances through several cute seasonal costumes and sings a variety of classic holiday numbers. A highlight is Santa Claus played by Johnny Carson's Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon, seriously getting into the part, and Cyril Ritchard and Tony Tanner as a lighthearted Ebenezer Scrooge and Cratchit singing "Where Would You Be Without Me?".
