The teacher Václav goes every evening to watch the princess skating on the frozen lake, but he doesn't admit to himself that he is in love with her. One day, the star Denicka, the fiancee of the radiant Sirius, who was knocked down by the jealous Proxima, shows up at his house. Every star on earth is fading, but pure, selfless love can give it strength. When Denicka discovers that Václav loves the princess, she decides to help their love and thus save herself. But Proxima is determined not to give up and to do anything to shine next to Sirius instead of Denicka.
Petronel, an angel, is still working at the Heaven's gates but is confident that he deserves a better function. His everlasting tempter Uriah, a devil, takes up tempting him. All one has to do to know all that God knows is pick an apple from the tree of knowledge. And then, the route to the well-deserved acknowledgment is free. The night before Saint Nicolase's day they get tangled up in a peculiar whirl. They meet little Anezka and her beautiful mother, a crew of deceitful carolers, the greedy Kostál and a likable Sausage-seller. Before they manage to find the apple and bring it back where it belongs, they first have to endure a great adventure and get through quite a few dangerous setups.
Multiple story lines include: A family tries to reconcile again and again; an irresponsible piper discovers paternal and partner responsibility; a happily married couple encounters a refugee from a children's home; a self-confident manager finds introducing his soulmate to his parents is a nightmare for him; two lonely people who have already given up on happiness might get one more chance.
