In each episode, Gert tells, seated under the Christmas tree, with some additions by Samson, a short story they experienced, usually wintry or otherwise Christmas-related. Illustrations are shown on screen from the cartoon which originally published the adventure.
Gert recalls how the mayor once was eager to participate in a ministerial contest for the best Christmas-decorated municipality. Just after Gert put up all Christmas lights available in the shops, a power cut occurred. Samson taught of asking everyone to put up their own candles. The ministerial delegate was greatly impressed, even after a sudden wind gush blew them all out, except the on top off the town square Christmas tree.
