Karla's parents are divorced and she lives with her mom, stepdad, brother and stepbrother. After arguments with mom, dad drinking again and no real X-mas in sight, she runs away from home. Will she be back for Christmas?
Ninna lives with her son Dennis in Præstø, Denmark, where she also works at the local barbecue. As Dennis turns 18 close to Christmas, Ninna throws a surprise party for him. Most surprised however, is Ninna herself, because in the midst of all the glory Dennis announces that he has found his own apartment and intends to move out from his childhood home. Ninna is now thrown into a major crisis, with December turning into a month in hell. The prospect of having to watch her son grow up and start living his own life is unmanageable, and she takes every conceivable and unimaginable means to save Christmas, the feast of hearts, and get her son home.
