On Christmas Eve, mother jokingly informs her little son Petrik that the best present would probably be a belt. Petrik goes to the department store and buys a belt there for his mother, at the same time inviting people he met along the way, including a pickpocket.
Friends Karel and Sasha got new flats in the housing estate. Sasha is looking forward to finally enjoying life and also really makes Karel go to entertainment venues. But everything changes by chance, because during the move Karel discovers that his first love Eva , whom he once lost due to his indecision, lives one floor up. The meeting on Christmas Eve turns out to be fatal.

A nurse is part of the resistance in 1940s Czech Republic. She is discovered and must find a place to hide. A patient whose life she saved, from a remote mountain village where time stopped 150 years ago, agrees to hide her as his wife.
