After her father's death Maruska is exposed to the whims of her evil stepmother and her stepsister Kveta, who treat her like Cinderella. Shortly before Christmas, Karel, who made his fortune in the wide world, returns to his homeland as a rich man. The village girls immediately surround him, seeing their chance to marry well. In his distress, Karel announces that he will only marry the one who surprises him with fragrant violets, juicy strawberries. and a tree with red apples--in the middle of winter. Maruska's stepmother forces her to find those rarities for Kveta, so the poor girl sets out into the snowy forest, where she meets 12 old men with supernatural powers: the months' rulers.
Friends Karel and Sasha got new flats in the housing estate. Sasha is looking forward to finally enjoying life and also really makes Karel go to entertainment venues. But everything changes by chance, because during the move Karel discovers that his first love Eva , whom he once lost due to his indecision, lives one floor up. The meeting on Christmas Eve turns out to be fatal.

Charming 60-something José (Josef Abrhám) returns to Prague after 30 years living in Mexico, though he was convinced that he would never see his hometown again. He was persuaded by his deeply-religious Mexican wife Dolores (Dolores Heredia), who is convinced that only a miracle that might be fulfilled by Prague's famous Infant Jesus can help their daughter Penelopé (Aislinn Derbez) get pregnant, and the ideal time for this is Christmas. And when Ruda (Václav Postránecký), his friend from Prague, also insists, José agrees to return to the places he used to know and to the memories that they bring back--including his former Prague love Kveta (Libuse Safránková). It becomes evident that the Infant Jesus is not the only one capable of making miracles come true in Prague. Penelopé's longed-for conception is definitely not the only one.
Kpt. Kalina, a policeman, a loving husband and a great father, is a victim of a car accident. From the position of a ghost, he follows the investigation of his own death. There are many humorous and unexpected situations. Gradually, small indicia begin to appear that everything may not have been as it sounded.
