On Christmas Eve 1933, the Waltons prepare for the holiday. However, John Walton, who was forced to take work in another part of the state, has not returned home yet, and his family are becoming increasingly worried.
Convent San Tanco's nuns draw names to provide Christmas presents for one another and Sister Bertrille draws Sister Olaf, an elderly nun from Scandanavia who's one wish is to see snow fall again before she dies. The young nun connives with the U.S. Weather Bureau to produce a snowstorm over the convent with disastrous results.

Over the Christmas holidays in a small New England college town, a man and a woman share a brief interlude. He is there to visit his wife, who is a mental patient at the university, and she is there visiting her son, who is a student, after discovering her husband's infidelity.
It's Christmas and Walter decides to throw his employees a party at the house. Walter is so happy at how tight knit he and his people are, not unlike another business that's shut down because of a union strike. But during the party Maude learns that his people have decided to join a union and Maude thinks it's great. When Walter learns of this, he feels betrayed. He decides to fire them.
